Have you ever noticed that some of the most well-made movies can be boring and tiresome to watch? When critiquing a movie, I try to consider the value of the story and the quality of its portrayal instead of how entertaining the film was. Nevertheless, I feel that readers deserve to know what they’ re in for, so I have included a “Boredom Factor” with most of the reviews. The scale ranges from 1 (edge of your seat) to 5 (zzzz!), and it should make it easier for you to decide whether the quality of a film justifies watching it.

Translation
Edge of your seat. The movie is so absorbing that you wouldn’t even notice if a nuclear bomb went off while you were watching it. Either the suspense is extremely high or the story is absolutely captivating. You’ll probably feel reluctant to blink for fear of missing a second of the action.
Captivating. Great characters, a compelling story and intriguing ideas add up to a film that’s impressive in its ability to keep your interest. Most people will find it hard to divert their eyes, though the movie isn’t guaranteed to appeal to everyone. If the movie sounds interesting to you from the review and it receives a 2, you’re almost certain to be caught up in it. Heck, you’ll probably be begging for more when it’s over.
Interesting. Either the film is based on a tantilizing new idea or its constructed well enough that it seems novel. It may drag at times, but the film is worth watching despite its shortcomings. Movies that insist on pushing the two-hour mark without having adequate material to support it show up here. So do films are hard to follow because they try to condense too much into a short amount of time.
Yawn. Though the subject matter may appeal to select audiences, the average viewer would find this film too dull to sit through. You probably won’t hate yourself for waiting out the entire film, though the time could have been better invested elsewhere. Be extremely weary of comedies or action flicks that score a 4. Dramas sometimes tend to be innately boring, though the story can often justify your time.
Zzzzz. If you’re like me, you’re an eternal optimist when it comes to films, always thinking, “This is going to get better, I just know it.’ If a film scores a Boredom Factor of 5, save yourself the agony. Either the interest level continually goes downhill, or it stays constant at a remarkably low level. Don’t waste your time unless you are dead-set on seeing thise movie.
